On
Tuesday, May 31 the missionaries from NorthWest
Christian Mission Canada came here and shared with us the work they are
doing in Haiti and how the efforts of Busy
Hands, and others, are helping those who live there. Through pictures and stories the Reverends
Bev and Tina Leslie shared with us that the mats the Busy Hands group had make
is being used in orphanages, homes for seniors, in hospitals and make-shift
hospitals.
During the recent Cholera outbreak they closed down the Bible School
there and used it as a place for those who were sick could go. The mats were
the only beds they had. In this example alone it showed the poverty there and
the great need for these mats. In any given day 30 people were coming to this
make-shift hospital and about 10 each day were dying. The mats they were using
had to be burned to prevent Cholera from spreading. The demand for the mats is ongoing.
Joining us on that day were groups from Ottawa, Morrisburg, Prescott and Athens – all who make mats. Thank you to our Busy Hands group for making a difference in the lives of those in Haiti.
